To all our users and volunteers
We have received an overwhelming number of offers to help – thank you to all new volunteers. While the demand for our help is currently low, it is increasing: and as the situation develops it is very likely that we will call on you!
Meanwhile, those who hold a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate will be available to drive anyone needing help to a medical appointment – but users, please only request this service if your journey is really essential.
Before transport can be arranged, we will ask you to confirm that you are not suffering from any of the following symptoms:
- A cough
- A high temperature
- Shortness of breath
While our drivers will have no symptoms, we cannot guarantee that a volunteer driver is not incubating the infection. So it is between you and the volunteer to agree that you both accept this level of risk.
Our drivers have also been advised to take precautions to reduce the risk of cross-infection. We will ask you to comply fully with these.
Help with shopping. Volunteers who have not been fully checked are available to drop off shopping, collect prescriptions and to provide social support to people in isolation, the latter through regular telephone- or internet-based calls. Interactions with our volunteers must minimise social contact; so (for example) shopping will be left by your door and the volunteer will speak from a distance.
